How-to Guide: Managing Your Notification Preferences
Roles: for everyone. Teachers, observers, and coaches each see the notifications that apply to them.
You can choose which notifications Master Teacher sends you, and how they reach you. Reflection requests, coaching reminders, comment notifications, and course recommendations are all optional — turn off the ones you don’t want and keep the ones you do, as email, as a notification on your phone, or both. A few essential emails are always sent, and this guide explains which.
Find it
Section titled “Find it”- Click your avatar in the top-right corner to open the Account menu.
- Choose My Profile.
- Scroll to the Notifications section.
Your preferences are personal to you. Changing them affects only your own email — no one else’s.
The notification categories
Section titled “The notification categories”Notifications are grouped by area. You’ll only see the groups that apply to your organization and role.
Observations
- Reflection requests — an observer asks you to reflect on an observation of your teaching.
- Acknowledgment requests — you’re asked to confirm you’ve reviewed a completed observation.
- Acknowledgments received — a teacher confirms an observation you completed.
- Final report — the summary email sent when an observation is finalized. This one is always sent and can’t be turned off.
Coaching
- Action step updates — your coach adds or changes one of your action steps.
- Action step reminders — a reminder when your action steps are coming due.
- Overdue visit alerts — your coaching visits have fallen behind schedule.
Messages & recommendations
- Comments & replies — someone comments on an observation you’re part of.
- Course recommendations — someone recommends professional-development content to you.
Turn a notification on or off
Section titled “Turn a notification on or off”- In the Notifications section, find the row for the notification you want to change.
- Click the checkbox in the Email column, the Push column, or both, to turn each on (checked) or off (unchecked).
- That’s it — changes save automatically. A save indicator confirms each change.
The summary line at the top shows how many optional notifications you’re currently receiving by email, for example “You’re getting 6 of 8 optional notifications.” It updates as you make changes. Push choices aren’t counted in that total.
Note: Every optional notification is on by default. If you’ve never visited this section, you’re receiving everything that applies to you — exactly as before.
Mute everything optional
Section titled “Mute everything optional”To stop all optional email at once, click Mute all optional at the top of the section. This unchecks every optional checkbox in the Email column and saves the change. The always-on Final report is not affected, and neither is the Push column — mute-all is an email shortcut, so your phone notifications keep coming until you turn them off yourself.
You can turn any category back on individually at any time.
When a setting is controlled by your administrator
Section titled “When a setting is controlled by your administrator”Some notifications depend on settings your organization controls, so a row may look different:
- “Turned off by your administrator — you won’t receive these until it’s switched back on.” Your organization has muted this notification for now. Your preference is remembered, so if the setting is switched back on, your choice still applies.
- “Comments aren’t enabled for your organization right now.” The comments feature isn’t turned on for your organization.
- Rows you don’t see. If your organization doesn’t use a particular product — weCLIMB or coaching, for example — its notifications don’t appear at all.
In every case, your saved preference is preserved. Turning a category off here always sticks, even if an administrator later changes an organization-wide setting.
Email and push
Section titled “Email and push”Each notification shows two columns: Email and Push, and both are live. They’re controlled independently, so you can take a category as email, as a notification on your phone, or both:
- Email — arrives in your inbox.
- Push — arrives on your phone. Push notifications need the weCLIMB mobile app installed and signed in, with notifications allowed on the phone itself.
The Push checkboxes here are the same settings the mobile app shows under ☰ → Notifications. Change either one and the other reflects it — they’re a single preference with two places to set it.
One difference between the columns: the always-on Final report applies to email only. Its Push checkbox is an ordinary control you can turn off, because the email still guarantees the report reaches you.
New to push? Every category starts out on, so allowing notifications on your phone is all it takes. See Push Notifications on Mobile for the mobile walkthrough.
A note about comments during an observation
Section titled “A note about comments during an observation”Previously, teachers received comment notifications only after an observation was finalized. Now, once an observation is submitted and has a reflection or acknowledgment step, comments reach the teacher during that process — so you and your observer can hold a conversation while the work is still underway. If you’d rather not receive these, turn off Comments & replies.
