Push Notifications on Mobile
Get notified on your phone when an observation, coaching update, or comment needs you.
Roles: for everyone. Teachers, observers, and coaches each receive the notifications that apply to them.
The weCLIMB mobile app can notify you on your phone when work is waiting — a reflection to write, an acknowledgment to confirm, a coaching update, a new comment. Tapping the notification opens the exact screen you need, so you can respond in a couple of taps instead of hunting for the observation.
Push notifications are mobile only. They’re separate from the notification emails you manage in your profile on the web, and you can control both — see Managing Your Notification Preferences.
Turning on notifications
Section titled “Turning on notifications”The first time you sign in after updating the app, you’ll see a prompt titled Turn on notifications:
Get notified when you have an observation to reflect on, a coaching update, or a new comment, so you never miss a time-sensitive request.
- Tap Turn on notifications.
- Your phone asks for permission — tap Allow.
That’s all you need to do. Every notification category is on to begin with, so notifications start arriving right away. You can switch off the ones you don’t want at any time.
You’ll see this prompt only once. If you tap Not now, the app won’t ask again — but you can still turn notifications on later: allow notifications for the app in your phone’s system settings, then reopen the app.
Where the settings live
Section titled “Where the settings live”- Open the Home tab.
- Tap the menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner.
- Choose Notifications.
The screen opens with “Choose which push notifications you receive” and lists every category that applies to you, grouped by area.
These settings apply to your account, so they cover every phone you’re signed in on. Permission to show notifications is granted per phone, in your device settings.
The notification categories
Section titled “The notification categories”You’ll only see the groups and categories that apply to your organization and your role.
Observations
- Reflection requests — when an observer asks you to reflect on an observation.
- Acknowledgment requests — when you’re asked to review a completed observation.
- Acknowledgments — when a teacher acknowledges an observation you completed.
- Finalized reports — when an observation report is finalized.
- Comments — new comments on observations you follow.
Coaching
- Action step updates — when your coach updates one of your action steps.
- Action step reminders — when action steps are coming due.
- Coaching visit reminders — when a coaching visit is overdue.
Recommendations
- Recommendations — new learning content recommended for you.
Turn a notification on or off
Section titled “Turn a notification on or off”- Open the Notifications screen.
- Find the category you want to change.
- Tap its switch.
Changes save as soon as you tap — there’s no save button. If a change can’t be saved (you’re offline, for example), the switch returns to its previous position so what you see always matches what’s saved.
Every category here can be switched off, including Finalized reports. Turning a category off stops the push notification only; it doesn’t change what’s recorded in Master Teacher, and it doesn’t affect the matching email.
When a setting is controlled by your organization
Section titled “When a setting is controlled by your organization”Some categories depend on settings your organization controls. When that’s the case, the switch is greyed out and the description is replaced with a short note:
- “Turned off for your organization” — the underlying feature isn’t enabled for your organization.
- “Managed by your administrator” — an administrator has muted this notification for now.
Categories that don’t apply to your organization at all don’t appear on the screen.
What tapping a notification opens
Section titled “What tapping a notification opens”Each notification takes you straight to the work it’s about:
| Notification | Opens |
|---|---|
| Reflection requests | The observation, on its Details tab |
| Acknowledgment requests | The observation, on its Details tab |
| Acknowledgments | The observation, on its Details tab |
| Finalized reports | The observation, on its Details tab |
| Comments | The observation, on its Comments tab |
| Action step updates | The Coaching Cycle for that assignment |
| Action step reminders | The Coaching Cycle for that assignment |
| Coaching visit reminders | The Coaching Cycle for that assignment |
| Recommendations | The Home tab |
This works even when the app is fully closed — tapping the notification opens the app, restores your session, and then lands you on the right screen.
If the notification can’t point at a specific record, you land somewhere sensible instead: the Home tab for an observation, or your coaching landing screen (My Roster if you coach, My Coaching if you’re being coached).
Quiet hours
Section titled “Quiet hours”Notifications aren’t delivered overnight. Anything generated between 9:00 pm and 7:00 am in your phone’s time zone is held and delivered shortly after 7:00 am, so a late observation or an overdue coaching visit doesn’t wake you. Nothing is lost — it just waits for morning.
Notifications while the app is open
Section titled “Notifications while the app is open”If a notification arrives while you’re using the app, it appears as a banner at the top of the screen. Tap it to jump to the observation or coaching screen it refers to, or ignore it and carry on.
Android: per-category system settings
Section titled “Android: per-category system settings”On Android, each category also appears as its own notification channel in your phone’s system settings, grouped into Observations, Coaching, and Recommendations. You can use those to control sound and priority per category, or to mute one at the phone level.
Muting a category in Android settings is separate from switching it off in the app. If you’ve muted something on the phone, the app’s switch can still be on and you still won’t see the notification — check both when something seems missing.
If you’re not receiving notifications
Section titled “If you’re not receiving notifications”Work through these in order:
- Check permission on the phone. Open your device settings, find the app, and confirm notifications are allowed. If you tapped Not now at the original prompt, this is usually why.
- Check the category. Open ☰ → Notifications and confirm the category’s switch is on.
- Look for a status note. “Turned off for your organization” or “Managed by your administrator” means the decision sits with your organization, not with you — talk to your administrator.
- Check the time. Between 9:00 pm and 7:00 am, notifications are held until morning.
- On Android, check the channel. Confirm the category isn’t muted in your phone’s notification settings for the app.
- Make sure you’re signed in. Notifications go to the account you’re signed in to. If you signed out, sign back in and they’ll resume.
Email and push together
Section titled “Email and push together”Push and email are controlled separately, and you can use either or both:
- Push — the Notifications screen in the mobile app, or the Push column in your profile on the web.
- Email — the Email column in your profile on the web.
Both control the same categories, so you might keep coaching reminders as push only, comments as email only, and reflection requests as both. One difference worth knowing: the observation Final report email is always sent and can’t be switched off, but its Finalized reports push can.
