Proctored Courses and Sessions
What changes when a course is proctored, and where to find the session steps for test takers and proctors.
Most courses are self-paced: you open them whenever you like and finish over several sittings. A publisher can instead mark a course as proctored, so that you take it only in a supervised session. Proctoring works the same way for courses as for assessments. This article covers what is different for a course and links to the full steps.
How you can tell a course is proctored
Section titled “How you can tell a course is proctored”The course card on LEARN > Courses shows Proctored. The publisher sets this; your district cannot turn it off for a course.
What changes for you
Section titled “What changes for you”- You cannot open the course outside a session. When you select the play button, eLearn checks for a session first. Depending on the setup, you go to the Proctor Lobby, see the Enter Code box, or see a message such as Proctor Session Unavailable or Proctor Session Enrollment. Each one is explained in When Content Will Not Open.
- You wait in the Proctor Lobby until the proctor starts the session, then select Start.
- If you already completed the course, or failed it in an earlier session, opening it again shows a Course Notice: “You’ve already taken this proctored course.” Only your proctor can allow another attempt, and only while the session is open.
- At the end of a proctored course, the player shows End of Course.

For proctors
Section titled “For proctors”A session is not tied to one piece of content. Anyone enrolled can take any proctored course or assessment assigned to them during the session window. To schedule a session, enroll people, allow retakes, and certify results, see Managing Proctored Sessions.
