Taking Courses and Tracking Progress

As a K-12 educator, you'll use PD Edge's Learn module to complete professional development courses, take assessments, and track your progress toward certification requirements.

Accessing Your Learning Content

You can find your assigned and available content through several pathways:

From the Learn Dashboard

  1. Click Learn in the main navigation
  2. View your personalized dashboard showing:
    • Continue Content - Courses you've started but not finished
    • Required Content - Mandatory training assigned to you
    • Content Libraries - Collections of related courses
    • Learning Paths - Structured sequences of courses

From Content Categories

Navigate directly to specific content types:

  1. Click LearnCourses for guided content
  2. Click LearnAssessments for standalone exams
  3. Click LearnVideos for video-based training
  4. Click LearnPDFs for document-based content

Using the Guided Content Player

The content player provides a structured learning experience with chapters and sections.

Starting a Course

  1. Click the play button (▶) on any available course
  2. The player opens showing:
    • Left panel - Course outline with chapters and sections
    • Main area - Current content (video, text, interactive elements)
    • Progress indicators - Your completion status

Navigating Course Content

Moving Between Sections:

  • Click Next to advance to the next section
  • Click Previous to return to earlier content
  • Use the left panel to jump to specific chapters or sections

Tracking Your Progress:

  • Progress bars show completion for each chapter
  • Green highlighting indicates completed sections
  • Current section is clearly marked in the navigation

Video Content Features

When viewing video content:

  • Automatic progress tracking - Your position is saved every 5 seconds
  • Resume capability - Return to where you left off
  • Completion detection - 100% progress when video ends
  • Manual seeking - Click timeline to jump to specific points

Completing Assessments and Exams

Assessments test your understanding and may be required for certification.

Taking an Assessment

  1. Click the play button on an assessment
  2. Read all instructions carefully
  3. Answer questions using the provided interface:
    • Multiple choice - Select one correct answer
    • Multiple selection - Check all applicable answers
    • Short answer - Type your response

Assessment Features

Answer Saving:

  • Your responses are automatically saved as you answer
  • You can change answers before submitting (if allowed)
  • Progress is maintained if you need to exit and return

Proctored Assessments:

  • Some assessments require proctor supervision
  • Enter the enroll code provided by your proctor
  • Wait in the lobby until the session begins
  • Follow all proctoring guidelines during the exam

Viewing Results

After completion:

  • Immediate feedback for most assessments
  • Final score and pass/fail status
  • Detailed results showing performance by section
  • Certificate generation for passed assessments (when applicable)

Monitoring Your Progress

Track your learning progress through multiple views:

Individual Course Progress

Within each course:

  • Percentage complete shown in course cards
  • Chapter progress bars in the course outline
  • Section completion checkmarks for finished content
  • Time estimates for remaining content

Overall Dashboard View

From your Learn dashboard:

  • Continue Content section shows partially completed courses
  • Completion status indicators:
    • Green background = Completed
    • Yellow background = Required
    • Orange background = In Progress
    • White background = Not Started

Content Filtering

Use status filters to focus on specific content:

  • Completed - Finished courses and passed assessments
  • Required - Mandatory training assigned to you
  • In Progress - Partially completed content
  • Not Started - Available but not yet begun

Understanding Completion Requirements

Different content types have different completion criteria:

Guided Content (Courses)

  • Must progress through all required sections
  • Complete any embedded assessments
  • Meet minimum time requirements (if specified)
  • Achieve passing scores on required exams

Video Content

  • Watch video to completion (100%)
  • Automatic tracking prevents skipping ahead
  • Some videos allow replay for review

Assessments

  • Achieve the minimum passing score
  • May have limited attempts
  • Proctoring required for certain exams
  • Immediate or delayed results depending on assessment type

Managing Required Training

As a K-12 educator, you'll often have mandatory professional development requirements:

Identifying Required Content

  • Red asterisk (✱) indicates required training
  • Yellow highlighting on course cards
  • Complete by dates shown when applicable
  • Appears in "Required Content" dashboard section

Meeting Deadlines

  • Check completion dates regularly
  • Prioritize courses with approaching deadlines
  • Contact your administrator if you need deadline extensions
  • Track progress to ensure timely completion

Getting Help

If you encounter issues:

  • Contact your organization administrator for content access problems
  • Reach out to technical support for player or system issues
  • Check with your proctor for proctored assessment questions
  • Review course instructions for content-specific guidance

Your learning progress is automatically saved, so you can always return to continue where you left off. Focus on understanding the material rather than rushing through, as many courses include knowledge checks and assessments that require mastery of the content.
