Taking Courses and Assessments
This guide walks you through completing courses, taking assessments, and tracking your professional development progress in PD Edge Learn.
Starting a Course
You can access courses from multiple locations in the Learn module.
From the Dashboard

Navigate to Learn → Dashboard

Find courses in these sections:
- Continue Content - Resume courses you've started
- Required Content - Courses assigned to you
- Content Libraries - Browse organized course collections
- Learning Paths - Sequential course progressions

Click the Play button (▶) on any course card to start
From Course Lists

Go to Learn → Courses or Learn → Assessments

Use filters to find specific content:
- Search by course name or item number
- Filter by Topic using the left sidebar
- Filter by Status using the status buttons (Completed, Required, Not Started, In-progress)

Click the Play button on the course you want to take
Navigating Course Content
Once you start a course, you'll see the course player interface.
Course Structure
Courses are organized into:
- Chapters - Main content sections
- Sections - Individual learning units within chapters
- Digital Assets - Videos, PDFs, and other learning materials
Using the Course Player
- Chapter Navigation: Click chapter headings in the left panel to expand sections
- Progress Tracking: Your progress bar shows completion percentage for each chapter
- Section Controls: Use Previous and Next buttons to move through content
- Video Controls: For video content, you can pause, rewind, and adjust playback speed
Tracking Your Progress
The system automatically tracks your progress as you:
- Complete video segments (progress updates every 5 seconds)
- View PDF documents
- Complete interactive content
- Finish sections and chapters
Completing Assessments
Assessments test your knowledge and may be required for course completion or certification.
Assessment Types
You may encounter:
- Multiple Choice questions with single correct answers
- Multiple Selection questions allowing multiple correct answers
- Short Answer questions requiring text responses
Taking an Assessment
- Click the Play button on the assessment
- Read each question carefully
- Select or enter your answers
- Your responses save automatically as you work
- Click Submit when finished
Assessment Results
After completing an assessment, you'll see:
- Final Score as a percentage
- Pass/Fail Status based on the passing score requirement
- Number of Attempts you've made
- Completion Date for your records
Retaking Assessments
If you don't pass an assessment on your first attempt, you can typically retake it.
Retaking Process
- Return to the assessment from your course list
- Click the Play button to start a new attempt
- Your previous answers are cleared for the new attempt
- Complete the assessment again
Multiple Attempts
- Each attempt is tracked separately in your results
- Your highest score typically counts as your final result
- Some assessments may limit the number of attempts allowed
Proctored Session Requirements
Some assessments require supervision through a proctored session.
Identifying Proctored Content
Proctored assessments show a Proctored indicator with a person icon (🚶).
Joining a Proctored Session

Enter Enroll Code: If your administrator provides an enroll code:
- Navigate to the proctored assessment
- Enter the enroll code when prompted
- Wait in the lobby until the session starts

Pre-scheduled Sessions: For scheduled sessions:
- You'll be automatically enrolled
- Join the session at the designated time
- Follow proctor instructions
Proctored Session Status
You may see these statuses:
- Waiting - Session hasn't started yet
- In Session - You can take the assessment
- Complete - Session has ended
Tracking Your Overall Progress
Monitor your professional development progress through several tools.
Progress Indicators
Look for these visual cues:
- Green backgrounds - Completed content
- Yellow backgrounds - Required content
- Orange indicators - In-progress content
- Red asterisks - Required with deadlines
Required Content Tracking
For required professional development:
- Due Dates appear if content has completion deadlines
- Required labels show mandatory training
- Progress percentages track your completion status
Certificates and Transcripts
Upon successful completion:
- Certificates are automatically generated for qualifying content
- Transcripts maintain your permanent learning record
- Both are accessible through your Learn dashboard
Getting Help
If you encounter issues:
- Contact your administrator for enroll codes or session access
- Check your internet connection for video playback issues
- Review assessment instructions if questions seem unclear
- Note completion deadlines for required content to avoid late penalties
Your professional development progress is automatically saved, so you can always return to continue where you left off.
