Taking Assessments
This guide covers how to access, complete, and review assessment results in PD Edge. Assessments help verify your understanding and may be required for certification or compliance.
Accessing Assessments
From Guided Content
When taking a course or guided content, assessments appear as sections within the content structure.
- Navigate to Learn > Content Libraries or Learn > course type
- Click the Play button on your course
- Progress through the content chapters
- Click Next when you reach an assessment section
- The assessment will open in the content player
Standalone Assessments
You can also access assessments directly from the assessments list.
- Go to Learn > Assessments
- Browse available assessments
- Click the Play button to start
Assessment cards show:
- Assessment name and description
- Time limit (if applicable)
- Number of attempts allowed
- Your completion status
- Required label if mandatory
Taking an Assessment
Starting the Assessment
- Click Begin Assessment to start
- Read any instructions carefully
- Note the time limit displayed at the top
- Click Start to begin the timer
Answering Questions
Question Types:
- Multiple Choice - Select one answer
- Multiple Selection - Select multiple answers
- Short Answer - Type your response
Navigation:
- Answer each question completely
- Use Next to move forward
- Use Previous to review answers
- Mark questions for review if uncertain
Submitting Your Assessment
- Complete all required questions
- Review your answers using the navigation
- Click Submit Assessment
- Confirm submission in the dialog box
Note: You cannot change answers after submitting.
Understanding Time Limits
Timed Assessments
When an assessment has a time limit:
- Timer appears at the top of the screen
- You receive warnings at 10 and 5 minutes remaining
- Assessment auto-submits when time expires
- Partial answers are saved automatically
Saving Progress
For untimed assessments:
- Your answers save automatically
- You can exit and return later
- Click Save and Continue Later to pause
Proctored Assessments
Some assessments require supervision by a certified proctor.
Entering a Proctored Session
- Look for the Proctored label on assessment cards
- Enter the Enroll Code provided by your proctor
- Wait in the lobby until the session starts
- Begin the assessment when authorized
During Proctored Assessment
- Follow all proctor instructions
- Keep your camera and microphone on if required
- Do not navigate away from the assessment
- Raise your hand if you have technical issues
Reviewing Results
Immediate Feedback
After submitting, you'll see:
- Your final score
- Pass/fail status
- Correct answers (if enabled)
- Feedback on responses
Assessment History
To view past attempts:
- Go to Learn > Assessments
- Find the completed assessment
- Click to view your results
- Review score and attempt history
Understanding Scores
Score Display:
- Points - Raw points earned
- Percentage - Score as percentage
- Pass/Fail - Based on passing threshold
- Attempts - Number of tries used
Retaking Assessments
Retake Availability
You can retake an assessment if:
- You have remaining attempts
- The assessment allows retakes
- You haven't passed (if required)
Starting a Retake
- Navigate back to the assessment
- Click Retake Assessment
- Previous answers are cleared
- Timer resets for timed assessments
Note: Your highest score typically counts as your final result.
Assessment Status Labels
Status Indicators:
- Not Started - Haven't attempted yet
- In Progress - Started but not submitted
- Passed - Met passing requirements
- Failed - Did not meet passing score
- Completed - Finished (pass/fail assessments)
Troubleshooting
Technical Issues
If the assessment won't load:
- Check your internet connection
- Refresh your browser
- Clear browser cache
- Try a different browser
If you lose connection during assessment:
- Your progress saves automatically
- Return to the assessment page
- Click Continue to resume
Getting Help
For assessment content questions:
- Contact your administrator
- Review course materials
- Check with your proctor (if applicable)
For technical problems:
- Contact your IT administrator
- Use the help system
- Report issues promptly
Best Practices
Before Starting:
- Find a quiet location
- Ensure stable internet
- Close unnecessary programs
- Have materials ready (if allowed)
During Assessment:
- Read questions carefully
- Manage your time wisely
- Double-check your answers
- Ask for help if needed
After Completion:
- Review your results
- Note areas for improvement
- Save certificates if earned
- Plan follow-up learning
